Our SRHacks 2021 theme is ...

THEME: Making Staying-at-Home during the Pandemic Better!

Staying and working at home during the pandemic doesn’t have to be boring and dreadful. How can we as scientist, engineers, and innovators help make staying-at-home during a pandemic more fun and better for everyone?

Your tasks is to create an innovation that reimagines what “staying-at-home” means during the pandemic. This may include: (a) Making staying-at-home more fun, (b) Making day-to-day tasks easier, (c) Helping us reconnect with our loved ones, or more!

Please see below for competition-specific details! Our informational video is available below.

(1) Engineering Competition

Project Submission Opens from: June 13th-20th.

INTRODUCTION

Everything around us from pencil sharpeners to vacuum cleaners, and smartphones to desk lamps, were creatively designed by engineers and innovators to make our lives a little easier. Well designed tools that help us in our daily lives are especially important while many of us are working or learning from home during the pandemic.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this competition is to design a physical invention made out of household materials that can help us in our daily lives working-from-home. When you’re designing your invention, think about WHO your target audience is, and WHAT the purpose of your innovation is. For more information, please go to our “General Information Package” linked below.

(2) Programming Competition

Project submission opens from: June 13th-30th

INTRODUCTION

Was there a moment during this pandemic where you missed hanging out with your friends, wanted to read a book in the presence of others at a cafe or library, or just wanted to take care of a pet? It’s likely that there are others out there from kids to the elderly who have felt the same way. Social interactions and companionship are essential components for happiness, and can help us get through stressful times.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this competition is to design a programming code using Microsoft MakeCode that can provide companionship, entertainment, and lend a helping hand to people who are isolated at home during the pandemic. When you’re designing your companion, think about WHO your target audience is, and WHAT the purpose of your innovation is. Remember your program should be able to interact with you, and bonuses will be given if they can help out with daily tasks at home.
